Developmental Education: Professionalism, Politics, and Practice with Dr. Patrick Saxon
Dr. Patrick Saxon will be speaking about political advocacy in developmental education. These are times of change, reform, redesign, and in some cases, a push for the elimination of developmental education. Professionals need to be prepared to discuss, advocate for, and defend what works and debunk that which is harmful in our practice - in the spirit of upholding academic standards and supporting student success. This presentation will cover effective means and messages for voicing our vision of the field. Suggestions for what to say, how to say it, and to whom to speak will be discussed.
Dr. Saxon is a Professor and Director of the Developmental Education Administration Doctoral Program at Sam Houston State University. He has published extensively and is coauthor of Attaining Excellence in Developmental Education. He is a NADE Executive Board member and Council for Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations Fellow.
