Dr. Emily Suh is an Assistant Professor of Developmental Literacy at Texas State University where she teaches graduate courses in the theory, research and practice of developmental literacy. Her dissertation on the experiences of adult-arrival immigrants in developmental education won the dissertation award from the American Association for Applied Linguistics and was nominated for the NADE dissertation award. She also has earned a certificate from the Kellogg Institute of Developmental Education. In addition to serving as the Cultural Diversity Chair, she has served as the NADE Special Interest Network Coordinator and as the president of the Indiana Association for Developmental Education. Emily is also an Associate with the National Center for Developmental Education. Her research interests include culturally and linguistically diverse students’ identity enactment and agency as well as developmental educators’ professionalization and resiliency. Her work has been published in the Journal of Developmental Education, Journal of College Reading and Learning,Teaching English in the Two-Year College, and the International Journal of Multilingualism.
